Crickhowell District Archive Centre is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. The Archive came into being as a Millennium project when Mrs Elizabeth Cornelius formed the idea of finding a permanent home for a collection of documents and artifacts which had been collected by the Crickhowell History Society and Crickhowell Civic Society in the 1960s and 70s. Funding was granted to the project by Age Concern and the National Lottery and a small steering committee joined Elizabeth to set up the Archive. The last 10 years have seen the Archive grow and develop into a valuable community amenity with a group of loyal, hard working volunteers and premises in Crickhowell Resource & Information Centre. The Centre has enrolled a growing group of ‘Friends’ and produces 2 excellent informative newsletters each year as well as a number of useful booklets. The work of the Centre and its volunteers is much appreciated by local residents and visitors who are researching family and local history. In celebration of their anniversary the Centre is organizing an exhibition and display of their resources which will be held in CRiC on 20th and 21st August 2010. The exhibition will be opened by the Centre’s Honorary President, Mrs Shan Legge-Bourke. The next event, however, will be the Annual General Meeting which will held in CRiC on Friday 7th May at 6.00pm.
