Tuesday 23rd March 2010

Brecknock Sinfonia and the Marches Choir will be giving a concert on April 17th in St Edmund’s Church, Crickhowell at 7.30pm. This will be their first concert here since the death of their founder, Mark Foster. The programme is Beethoven Coriolan Overture, Haydn Mass "In Time of War" and Mozart Oboe Concerto; the oboe soloist is Ruth Watson who performed with the Gwent Chamber Orchestra at a concert in Cwmdu last year. Brecknock Sinfonia conductor is Roger Langford, who also conducts Gwent Bach Society choir. As part of a fund-raising activity for Brecknock Sinfonia, we are also offering you the opportunity to hear Laurence Kempton in recital, with Vaughan Bennett at the piano, in music by Handel, Dvorak, Hess and others. (plus Joseph Cooper’s Hidden Melody Quiz). Laurence gave a heart-felt performance of the Beethoven Violin Concerto at the last concert of the Brecknock Sinfonia in Brecon Cathedral and he has kindly agreed to give his musical services again to help the cause. This recital will be held at Castle Street Methodist Church Hall, (adjacent to the Chapel) in Abergavenny on Sunday March 28th at 3pm. Good parking facilities opposite. Tickets are £5 (children free) and will include tea and cakes! For any further information please contact Vaughan and Kaye on 01873 810034 or at [email protected].
