Welcome

The community of The Vale of Grwyney is the most south-easterly community in Powys. The area is defined by two valleys: the Grwyne Fechan and the Grywne Fawr which rise in the high Black Mountains and converge near Llanbedr before joining the river Usk, which forms the southern boundary of the community.

These valleys are bounded by the high points of the Black Mountains:- Crug Hywel, Pen Cerrig-calch and Pen Allt-mawr to the west and Patricio Hill, Crug Mawr, Pen y Gadair-fawr and Waun Fach which form a spine through the centre of the community. The northern half of the community comprises largely uninhabited moorland and the extensive Mynydd Ddu Forest.

Glangrwyney, Llangenny and Llanbedr are the major villages in the Vale of Grwyney and the remainder of the population lives in scattered farms and dwellings in the two valleys in the south of the community and in the settlement of Patricio. The whole of this community lies within the Brecon Beacons National Park.

The Vale of Grwyney Community Council comprises nine Councillors elected to represent the three wards of Llanbedr, Llangenny and Glangrwyney and meet on the 3rd Monday of the month on a rotational basis in each of the community's village halls.
